The full form of IRM in dentistry is Intermediate Restorative Material. This is also known as sedative filling, and it is very useful in cases where the patient has a large cavity. During the treatment, the decay is removed from the large cavity and cleaned thoroughly. After the cleaning, the intermediate restorative material is placed in the cavity. The IRM is known to slow or stop the decay and help the patient recover.
IRM is also placed when the tooth needs time to recover. It may eliminate the need for a root canal. Usually, after the IRM is placed, there is a second sitting during which the crown is placed on the patient. IRM is available in the form of powder and liquid, which needs to be mixed to form a dough.
This is then used for the filling. Other full forms of IRM are Interference Reflection Microscopy, Immunoreactive Material, Independent Radiation Monitor, Institute of Reproductive Medicine, Immune Response Modulator, Impulse Response Method, Index of Risk of Malignancy, Innate releasing mechanism, Inner Region of Mesorectum, Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, Invariant Risk Minimization, Isolated Renal Mucormycosis and Isotope Ratio Monitoring.
