The full form of REE in dentistry is Reduced Enamel Epithelium. This is also referred to as reduced dental epithelium. This is a term that is used for a developing tooth. The developing tooth, or REE, is made of two layers of ameloblast cells and cuboidal cells. The cuboidal cells form the outer enamel epithelium from the dental lamina.
It is known that with time, the cells of the reduced enamel epithelium degenerate, the tooth is revealed, and it comes out of the mouth. As per the information available, the degeneration of reduced enamel epithelium mediates the epithelial attachment to the tooth and in dentistry, it is referred to as junctional epithelium. This is taught during the dentistry course, and the anatomy of REE is usually visible in an X-ray. All these can be critical for tooth development, and your dentist may recommend a corrective action based on the anatomy and the condition. It should be noted that REE is made of inner enamel epithelium and outer enamel epithelium.
