The full form of SDF in Dentistry is Silver Diamine Fluoride. It is a colourless liquid that has a pH value of 10. SDF is used in the treatment of tooth sensitivity. SDF is also used for the arrest of caries in adults and children. It has been marked as safe to use the drug, but it should be used under medical supervision. SDF is applied directly to the carious lesion, reducing the risk of spread. SDF is also known to manage root caries in elderly patients.
The advantage of SDF is that it can stop the disease progression and it can easily control infection as well as pain. It is also available at a low cost and is applied as a noninvasive medicine. After the application, the patient may feel a metallic taste, and the tooth surface may develop a black stain. This is a preferred method of treatment when the proper dental procedures can't be done.
The other full forms of SDF are Sugar-Dense Foods, Syndrome of Diabetic Foot, Systolic Dysfunction, Stromal cell-Derived growth Factor and Soluble Dietary Fiber.
